Algerian MPs receive large salaries and benefits, Chorouk Daily, Jamel Alalaami, 04/29/2007
Algeria’s legislative elections are scheduled for May 17th, 2007. According to an Algerie Press report released on April 20th, 2007, approximately 12,229 candidates are running for a seat in the Algerian Parliament. These candidates represent 24 parties on 1,144 party lists. Nearly 1,000 independent candidates will run in more than 30 Algerian provinces. Mr. Abdulaziz Bilkhaddem, the Secretary General of the National Liberation Front (FLN) -Algeria's largest political party- said in gathering in Shalaf city that his party has no need to campaign for the coming election on May 17th. He asserted that the FLN is a well known party based on transparency and credibility, and therefore, has no need to prove itself to the Algerian people
